The Diverting History of John Gilpin
The illustrated nursery rhymes of Randolph Caldecott, the British artist and illustrator who the Caldecott Medal was named in his honor. Caldecott greatly influenced the illustration of children’s book during the nineteenth century.
The illustrations for this book are derived from The Complete Collection of Pictures & Songs by Randolph Caldecott, published posthumously in 1887. The illustrations were reproduced by engraver Edmund Evans using wood blocks and a technique known as chromoxylography.
